What’s new in Xero? – August 2018

What’s new in Xero? – Our quarterly update of new and upcoming features…

For clients and end users

Xero App Enhancements – Both the IOS and Android app now have enhanced contact search using individuals names making it easier to find the right contact in the invoicing feature. In addition there is enhanced visibility of invoices for each contact in each of the invoice status categories.

Xero Projects – A new fully customisable detailed time report now makes reviewing time entries in detail, in summary and in filtered view much easier. This includes the ability to report on un-invoiced time. As always the ability to export this data in csv form is missing but can of course be created in excel via some additional steps.

Xero ‘new expenses’ – There was some controversy when Xero finally announced that their ‘new expenses’ feature was ready for general release as a chargeable feature and they would shortly be retiring the existing expenses functionality. This caused somewhat of a backlash as customers did not welcome being forced into exchanging an included feature with one with additional charges. Nonetheless the ability to give employees ‘expenses only’ access along and the OCR features of the app make this a great feature at a reasonable price of £2.50 per month per submitter.

For practitioners

Hubdoc partnership – Xero have just announced their purchase of document management service ‘Hubdoc’ this will fully complete their rivalry of Receipt Bank by offering a document ‘fetch’ service from invoice portals. We will be trialling this as a partner over the next few weeks and report back on what we find.

That’s all for this quarter and we’d love your comments on any of the developments above.
